Power of Engineering
Making has been a constant theme in Kristen’s life, through her careers as an engineer, science communicator and teacher, and in her spare time knitting, baking, playing with clay or fixing something. She is currently working with the Swinburne Engineering Practice Academy, and doing her PhD in School Makerspaces, weaving the different threads of her life together.
In the classroom, Kristen enjoys guiding and encouraging her students to shape the world, led by their curiosity and creativity. As the Lead Teacher of STEM and digital fabrication at Lauriston girls school she worked classroom teachers and students to develop and deliver engineering projects, creative making projects and entrepreneurial programs. Kristen enjoys creating interdisciplinary and multi disciplinary projects, blurring the boundaries between the knowledge silos in school.
With ten years experience as a teacher and holding a Masters in Educational Leadership, Lucas is currently working in research and development around STEM in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. Through this role he has been involved in building partnerships with schools and industry, as well as preparing and presenting professional learning opportunities for teachers and leaders of STEM Education. Lucas is passionate about immersing students in authentic community problems, that allow them to think critically and creatively, while developing the skills and knowledge to enrich the world around them.
